Chicken and Waffles

photo 1

I was pretty upset a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to make chicken and waffles and my waffle maker broke.  I didn’t want to buy  frozen waffles. They just don’t taste the same.  So as I was looking through the supermarket near the bakery they had some homestyle fresh made waffles. I was so excited so I picked them up to use for this recipe.  If you can’t find these please feel free to use the frozen or make your homemade kind.  The combination of the buttery and syrup sauce on the waffle goes great with that savory chicken.

Crispy Chicken Ingredients:

1 1/4 lbs Pieces Chicken cutlets

1 1/2 Cups of All Purpose flour

2 Egg, beaten

1/3 Cups of heavy cream

2 cup Panko crumbs

Salt & Pepper, to taste

1 Teaspoon of paprika

1/2 Teaspoon of garlic powder

1/2 Teaspoon of onion powder

Vegetable Oil, for frying

8 pieces Homestyle Waffles

Chives, garnish

Maple Syrup Ingredients:

1 Stick of unsalted butter,melted

3 Tablespoons of Maple Syrup

Preparation:

On 2 different plates, add panko and all-purpose flour.  Next season the flour with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt and pepper.

Beat the eggs in a medium bowl and add the heavy cream.  Season the chicken with salt and pepper.  Begin by dipping the chicken in the flour, then eggs and finally panko. Place to the side.

In a large pot add the vegetable oil about half way through the top.  If you don’t have a way to check the temperature of the oil all you have to do is take a wooden spoon and flip it over and dip it in, if it begins to bubble around the handle of the spoon, then you’re ready.

Don’t overcrowd your pot with chicken.  Cook chicken for about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove chicken and place on a paper towel to remove excesses oil.

Meanwhile toast your waffles and start your maple syrup sauce. In a medium bowl take your melted butter and syrup and mix until well incorporated.  Chop chives.

Now begin to assemble. Take your waffles spread the sauce then place the chicken on top with some chives and close with another piece of waffle.

  1. I had a serious chicken and waffle craving the other day. Now that we don’t live in the south any more, they are hard to find on restaurant menus. I never thought to make my own, this looks great! Pinning this for my future chicken n waffle cravings 🙂

Wow, that looks awesome! We ate at Gladys Knight’s Chicken and Waffles in Atlanta a few years ago and until then I had never heard of the idea. It was sooo good. Your recipe makes me think I can achieve that wonderfulness at home. Can’t wait to try it. And your photo makes my mouth water! Nice job.

This is making my head spin in all directions. I need some of this chicken and waffle right now! It’s my favorite Saturday breakfast. There is a small flea market in my neighborhood on the weekends, and a lady sells chicken and waffle. Since winter, the flea market has been closed. All I have is an imagination. Now, I have something to look forward to every weekend. Thanks for sharing this recipe.
