Monsoon Indian Restaurant

I have been on the hunt for a delicious Indian restaurant for the past 2 years.  I hadn’t had much luck, but recently that has changed.  When I was invited to Monsoon in Cherry Hill, NJ it more than met my expectations for fine cuisine.  The restaurant is located on the corner of a cute little shopping center. During the summer months they have outside seating on the patio, and inside the décor is contemporary with a little Indian flare.  They also offer a private room for parties or business meeting dining.

As we sat down and started to browse the menu, the options were endless with delicious choices.  The owner, Ray, was kind enough to chat with us about the different dishes.  I told him I loved spicy food, and he was quick to mention how authentic Indian food is not typically “spicy,” but flavorful with “spices.”  There are plenty of dishes that don’t have any heat at all, but will leave the taste buds wanting more.  Many people hesitate trying different foods because they don’t know this.
We didn’t know what to go for on the menu, so we left the options up to Ray and I’m so glad we did.   My kids also enjoyed the experience and had their very own favorites dishes.  They are 7 and 8 years old, so if they are trying it out and loving it, then you should too.  Below you will find a list of all the dishes we got to try.
Hands down this place has now become my go to place.  We will be returning soon.  If you are new to Indian food or love it, this is the place for you.  It will not disappoint.
Let’s start with the appetizers.
SAMOSA (These have always been a favorite of mine, they also make the dough in house fresh everyday. This is a plus in my book)

Crisp pastry stuffed with spiced peas and potatoes

EGGPLANT CHATT (This was the families absolute favorite dish, so delicious)
Eggplant wafers topped with spiced onions, tomatoes and a perfect blend of sauces.
SALMON RAITA ( I could have had this dish as a main dish, very flavorful)
Salmon with yogurt and mellow spices.
Moving on to the main courses.

LAMB ROGANJOSH (The lamb was seriously melting in my mouth and the spices were on point)

Lamb curry cooked with cardamom

BUTTER CHICKEN ( Ray suggested this dish for the kids and boy was he right the kids loved it)

Tandoori chicken simmered in a creamy tomato gravy

MALAI KOFTA (these marvelous clouds were packed with amazing flavor)

Vegetable dumplings stuffed with fresh basil and herbs

SAAG PANEER (if you love cream of spinach this side dish will take it to the next level. The creaminess and flavor was out of this world)

Cubes of paneer in an herb enriched creamed spinach

We also received some NAAN bread which I’ve only tried plain. But Monsoon kicks it up with different flavors. My daughter could have eaten the whole thing.

ROSEMARY NAAN

GARLIC NAAN

ONION NAAN (this was my favorite)

KASHMIRI NAAN stuffed with dried fruits and nuts

And of course we can’t end an amazing meal with dessert. At this

point I was so stuffed, but I knew I wanted to try the desserts.

GULAB JAMUN (full of flavor, cardamom is so under used and I love how they incorporated it into this dessert)

Scrumptious deeper fried milk and flour drops soaked in a warm rose water syrup infused with cardamom seeds

ORANGE KULFI (The kids were

obsessed with this dessert. Perfect for the summer time)

A popular Indian style ice cream made with fresh oranges.

GAZAR HALWA (Carrot pudding but it also reminded me of a deconstructed carrot cake)

Made with milk and carrot sprinkled with nuts and sweet raisins

RASMALAI (This dessert was very delightful. If your not into something so sweet this is perfect)

Delicate sponge cheese patties, smothered in a pistachio, cardamom seeds and saffron cream

KHEER ( I grew up eating rice pudding but the flavors in this pudding were outstanding)

Made with rice and milk, flavored with cardamom, raisins, saffron, cashews, pistachios and almonds
My mouth is actually watering while I finish this post and share this experience with you. I also forgot to mention its a BYOB which is a plus. For more information visit http://monsoonindiancuisine.com/

The Twisted Tail

logo
Philadelphia has become a great foodie destination.  We have so many amazing restaurants.  I went to a media event a couple of weeks ago and got to sample some stuff at The Twisted Tail. After leaving I told my husband we have to go back to try this place, and a week later we took the kids there for lunch.

The staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable about their menu.  The brunch menu offered delicious varieties from omelettes to sandwiches.  I think what I really loved were the cocktails.  They are insanely good and refreshing.  The cheese board variety is also outstanding.  I’m obsessed with a good cheeseboard.
This is what we ordered (of course we had to start with 2 cocktails for myself and the hubby.) One of my favorite drinks at twisted tail would have to be the thyme after thyme.  It’s super light and fresh.  Another would have to be the geisha (an egg white frothy cocktail.)  Next we moved on to an Artisanal Cheese Plate, which included 3 cheeses, jam, pecans, and crostinis.  We also had some of their prosciutto, which was the perfect accompaniment.  Now for the main course.  My husband got the smoked turkey sandwich which had avocado, rosemary mayo and lettuce this sandwich was huge and delicious.  My kids both decided to split the praline french toast, which was perfect for them to share.  It was with Brioche bread, Pecans and Bourbon Pineapples. YUM! I wanted something light so I went ahead and had the Big eye tuna which was with Radish, Avocado, Jalapeno. It was the perfect size and very refreshing.

On to dessert.  You can’t finish a delicious meal without having something sweet.  The kids loved the homemade Popsicles and we enjoyed the bourbon peach Panna cotta.

If you live in Philly or are planning on visiting this is a must try place. They have lots of fun things going on right now in July including a Christmas in July bash on the 23rd.  It’s free to attend with holiday beers on tap (including Troegs Mad Elf) live music, Santa Claus and….snow!

Party City Party Star Wars

Capture

Partnering up with Party City was perfect for my son’s 6th birthday.  As some of you parents may know planning a little kid’s birthday can get kinda crazy.  Making sure you have the right theme and party supplies is a huge undertaking.

Party City is great because it’s a one stop party shop.  Everything that you need or can imagine is under one roof.  If you don’t have a Party City near you, you can always visit their website.
My son wanted a Star Wars themed party.  I love that our Star Wars package included everything I needed to make his party a success. I choose the Star Wars Party Supplies Ultimate Party Kit, which included:
16 Star Wars the Force Awakens Dessert Plates
16 Star Wars the Force Awakens Lunch Plates
16 Star Wars the Force Awakens Beverage Napkins
16 Star Wars the Force Awakens Lunch Napkins
16 Star Wars the Force Awakens Cups
2 Star Wars the Force Awakens Table Cover
16 Red Plastic Forks
16 Red Plastic Knives
16 Red Plastic Spoons
24 Assorted Candy Stripe Birthday Candles
2 Star Wars the Force Awakens Decorating Kit 23pc
1 Star Wars the Force Awakens Birthday Banner
1 Black Streamer
1 Blue Streamer
12 Star Wars the Force Awakens Latex Balloons
2 Red Curling Ribbon 40ft
16 Star Wars the Force Awakens Blowouts
16 Star Wars the Force Awakens Favor Bags
2 Star Wars the Force Awakens Favor Packs 48ct
1 Star Wars the Force Awakens Pinata
1 Kiddie Mix Candy 240pc
1 Pinata Blindfold and Pinata

This was the perfect package. I also wanted to make this party a hit, so I ordered a life sized cardboard cut out of C3PO and R2D2. The kids loved it. Another big hit at the party was the 41 inch kylo ren balloon.

All in all it was a great party. Some of the parents were super excited to plan their kids birthday parties after seeing what we’d done. Below you will find some highlights and photos of the party.

Pressed Juicery Cleanse

Capture

Cleanses are a great way to detox your body, giving you a fresh start.  I try to do 2 cleanses a year, but I only do a 3 day cleanse just to give me that motivation to get back on track with clean eating.  I was excited to be able to review Pressed Juicery.
Their mission at Pressed Juicery is simple: make high nutrition a realistic option for all people. They do this by focusing on what others often forget: Make it taste great. Make it simple. Make it affordable. Make it for everyone. As they expand, food safety is their number one priority. As an industry leader, they have researched the latest technologies available that best keep their products safe without compromising great taste. In a field crowded with opinions and unqualified conjecture, they feel strongly about having actual science to support their decisions.

I love how they have different juice cleanse packages.  Cleanse 2 was what I went with and I have to say it didn’t disappoint. People are always scared to try a cleanse out because they think they will starve. Not true!  If I feel like I need to eat something while I’m on the cleanse I eat almonds or celery maybe even an apple. I have to say the second day of my cleanse I was actually full. I actually had to force myself to drink lol.
The one thing I loved about this cleanse is that it contained  Chlorophyll and Aloe Vera waters to supplement the cleanse each day. Great to aid digestion and raise alkaline levels!

If you are thinking of trying a cleanse I recommend this cleanse and company. Below you will find all the information on the juices I tried.

ABOUT THE GARCES FOUNDATION:

In 2012, the Garces Foundation was founded as a way to help others among Philadelphia’s immigrant community, particularly employees of Philadelphia’s hospitality industry and their families. The foundation raises funds to provide this community with medical, educational and nutritional programming. The goal is to help Philadelphia’s immigrants take advantage of these resources so that they may actively contribute their talents to making this city truly world-class.

The foundation currently runs three of its own programs that improve the health, language, cultural skills, and nutrition of this community.  The first is a quarterly Community Health Day where uninsured patients can receive free dental care, physicals, and medical screenings.  The second is an applied learning English as a second language class for restaurant workers, English for the Restaurant and Everyday Living, which aims to narrow the language and cultural gap in the workplace and beyond.  Last, the foundation hosts summer Luna Farm Field Trips to the Garces family farm, where children grow and harvest fruits and vegetables, cook their own healthy lunch from the produce they harvest, and practice fun ways to exercise.
