The Buccaneer Resort

Last weekend I had the opportunity to take my family to beautiful St.Croix where we had the pleasure of staying at The Buccaneer resort. This isn’t just a typical resort. It has so much history from the Sugar Mills to being a multi-generation owned business. Founded in the 17th century, St. Croix’s Buccaneer is the Caribbean’s longest running resort. The property has 3 beaches to enjoy, different restaurant options and plenty of amenities to keep the whole family entertained and relaxed.

I know a lot of us are uncertain on when to start traveling again, but my family and I felt safe taking this trip. Right now it is required that you take a Covid test 5 days prior to traveling to the US Virgin Islands, but you don’t need a passport to travel which is nice, and no test is required to return to the mainland. Upon arrival in St. Croix we rented a car so we had easy access to visit and sight see around the island. One thing to remember is they drive on the left side of the road. So flip that brain (haha). As we turned into the resort road there were beautiful palm trees and scenery. We arrived at the gate where they checked our temperature before going to check in. The family stayed in the car while I went in to the lobby and was greeted by Randy who walked me to the counter. He asked if we would like some rum punch and how could I refuse. He gave me one and walked out to give my husband one and a non alcoholic one to the kids. The hospitality was fantastic and the staff super friendly.

After check in we followed Randy to our room. The resort is on beautiful land. I can’t even begin to explain how gorgeous the view is. The room we stayed in could sleep 8 people. It was a spacious two bedroom suite not unlike a condominium/apartment. We had a full kitchen, 3 full bathrooms, laundry machines, 2 sofa beds, and 2 king size beds. We also had a big patio with tables and chairs overlooking the pool and the grotto beach. It was breath taking.

One of the amenities the resort provides is snorkeling gear, which was fun for the family to try followed by my husband and kids taking the kayak for a fun rowing…the kids loved that. There are also boogie boards available for the kids, and you can order food on the beach from The Mermaid restaurant. We spent the whole day relaxing on the beach.

Two nights we had delicious dinners at The Mermaid. The seafood was super fresh and the cocktails on point. The service is very laid back and friendly. One thing I learned being on this beautiful island is that no one is in a rush and that helped us relax and enjoy it all even more.  We also enjoyed breakfast at The Terrace with beautiful views of the resort and island. There’s no better way to enjoy breakfast.

Also if you plan on exploring the island the resort is Conveniently located less than a 10-minute drive from Christiansted. They have an awesome boardwalk area.

Since we are still dealing with Covid, The Buccaneer has taken health measures to help guests feel safe. Social distancing is in place, hand sanitizers all around the resort and mask wearing if you are close to other guests.

We can’t wait to return to paradise and explore more of what The Buccaneer and St. Croix has to offer.

Oh it was just the other day I asked my dad to look up places to stay in St. Croix because my friend recommended it to us. I’ll definitely check out the Buccaneer. We’re wary of the pandemic too but we just have to go somewhere. It’s been so long. Thank you for sharing this with us 😀
