If you love restaurants and try to take every opportunity to eat out and sample the food of some of Philadelphia’s best chefs, you should try Taste America: The Philadelphia Food Evolution. The James Beard Foundation event is a traveling national food festival that will visit 10 cities over five weekends from September 20 through October 19, 2013. It will be in Philadelphia on Friday, October 4.
The party starts at 7 p.m. and features food from the area’s next generation of rising star chefs. Have you tried Chef George Sabatino’s menu at Morgan’s Pier? Did you ever consider going to Will to taste the dishes of Chef Chris Kearse? How about Joe Cicala of Le Virtu? In addition to some great food, the event will feature a live and a silent auction. Chef David Katz of Creekstone Farms put together the line-up.
If you’re more inclined to hobnob with the chefs that put Philadelphia on the nation’s culinary map, there’s a VIP party that offers guests the opportunity to get up-close-and-personal with Philadelphia’s legacy chefs, including James Beard Award winners Georges Perrier, Judy Wicks, Jean-Marie Lacroix, Susanna Foo, and Steve Poses. Each course of the four-course sit-down dinner organized by Chef Patrick Feury of Nectar Restaurant, will feature a dish created by a protégés of one of the legacies named above, including Pierre Calmels of Bibou for Georges Perrier, Ann Coll of Meritage for Susanna Foo, Matt Ridgway for Jean-Marie Lacroix. Dessert will be provided by All-Star Celebrity Chef Carla Hall of ABC’s The Chew.
