As the holidays are upon us, one of the questions that I’m oft asked is “what beverage should I serve?” Well here is a beer that I think is a good idea to have at holiday parties. I like Blue Moon beer. It always gives me that citrus flavor that I like to have in beer once in a while. The past weekend I ran over to my local beer store and asked what Winter beer Variety packs they had, and although they had a couple different ones I figured I would give the Blue Moon a try. It did not disappoint. I will post 2 reviews on here and 2 others ones in another post.
First up is Blue Moon Winter Abbey Ale – its reddish and brown in color with an average carbonation and scents of bread, holidays spices and toffee. Prominent tastes are of holiday spices, dark fruit and caramel. This goes great with holiday fest foods. I give this beer a 8 out of 10.
Next up is Blue Moon Spiced Amber Ale – A mahogany color with orange highlights, with a light carbonation and scents of Cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar and allspice. To me it tastes like gingerbread cookies with a little hop to it. Great with all the holiday deserts. I give this beer a 8 out of 10 as well.
I’m not a big drinker, but Blue Moon is an absolute favorite. Their seasonal flavors are delish and they tend to not cost too much. Great pick!
I’ve heard of Blue Moon beer before, but have never tried it before. I would love to hear your review. 🙂
I love blue moon. Its a standard go to beer. Its citrusy with hints of coriander, cinnnamon and a bready yeast. A lot of times people use a slice of orange in it, but you really dont need too. Let me know if you ever try it.
I’m going to try to remember when I’m home next month for sure. 🙂
Is this a really sweet beer? The thing I really don’t like about the blue moon varieties in general is that I always think they are too sweet for my taste.
I know what your saying some people have said that. I think its because of its citrusy taste and I thinking adding an ornage makes it sweet. Which one are you referring to here The Winter Abbey, the Spiced or both?
Actually, I hadn’t had any Blue Moon for a long time, and I recently had a sampler with the Belgian Pale, the Pumpkin, the Caramel Apple, and the original, and I thought the sweetness was a common theme for all of them.
I guess they all have a little touch of sweetness…These were all Blue Moon?
Which a lot of people probably like. I just tend to be the kind of person that drinks black coffee and unsweetened tea.
I am with you there. We really dont drink alot of sweet stuff in this house especially my kids. We never have any soda unless we have a party etc. Even my wines have to dry but I always like to try different things. 🙂
I’ll have to check out the other types of Blue moon! Never knew there were others! Cheers for the heads up 🙂
